Gathering and Harvesting Kai


  • Kai is a Maori word for food.
  • Maori people were hunters, gatherers and crop farmers that they harvested there food from the forest.
  • The Maori diet was based on bird and fishes.
  • Maori people cooked there food underground in ovens that was called hangi
  • Maori people made wine
  • Maori made crayfish pots to crayfish and craps\
  • bird and whale bones where made into spears and fish hooks
